Outdoor adventure

I have been an outdoors and nature enthusiast all my life. Much of my youth was spent in and on the Bras d’Or Lakes, and exploring the woods of Nova Scotia. I learned to canoe, row, kayak, sail and windsurf from a young age. I have kayaked many stretches of Nova Scotia’s coastline on long, extended trips, as well as parts of the coast and inshore areas of New Brunswick, Quebec, and Guatemala. I have canoed in numerous lakes and rivers in Nova Scotia, Ontario and Manitoba, preferring multi-day trips into remote areas. My longest canoe trip involved a 15-day paddle from the north end of Lake Winnipeg to Hudson’s Bay, primarily along the Hayes River, a Canadian Heritage River.

I am also an avid back-country skier, including single and multi-day trips in numerous parts of Nova Scotia (including multiple forays into the Cape Breton Highlands), Algonquin Park, Ontario, the Chic Chocs and Laurentides of Quebec, Adirondacks of New York, Blow-Me-Down Mountains of Newfoundland, the hills in proximity to Goose Bay, Labrador, Garibaldi Provincial Park, Whistler and Nipika, British Columbia, various locations in the Sunshine Valley area of the Albertan Rockies, and the Green Mountains of Vermont.

I enjoy walking every day – on roads, trails and especially in the woods, and I have also enjoyed multi-day walks, including the Camino and the Picos de Europa in Spain; the Lake District of northern England, the south coast of Crete, the Long Trail in Vermont, the Skyline Trail of Jasper National Park, the Fundy Footpath (NB), and Cape Chignecto, Pollett’s and Fishing Cove in Nova Scotia.

I have explored many of Nova Scotia’s Wilderness Areas, including Scaterie Island, Baddeck River, North River, Margaree River, Middle River, Trout Brook, Cape Mabou, Polletts Cove – Aspy Fault, Humes River, French River, Kluscap, Canso Coastal Barrens, Eastern Shore Islands, Boggy Lake, Cloud Lake, Gabarus, Economy River, Gully Lake, Eigg Mountain – James River, Waverley Salmon River Long Lake, Tangier Grand Lake, Blue Mountain – Birch Cove Lakes, Tobeatic, White Lake, Medway Lakes, and Terence Bay.

I have also visited Cape Chignecto, Blomidon, Long Lake, MacNabs Island, Cole Harbour Lawrencetown, Taylors Head, Cape Split, Crystal Crescent, Thomas Raddall, West Mabou Beach, Whycocomagh, and Dalem Lake Provincial Parks, and Duncans Cove, MacRae Brook, MacFarlane Woods, Black River Bog, Bornish Hill, Washabuck River, Panuke Lake, and Abraham Lake Nature Reserves.
